Culture Training-India (ACT-I) Program conceived and organized in
partnership with Rai Foundation, Delhi invites participants to:
- Discovery
- Immersion
- Exchange
- Study
- Training
- Collaboration
- Creation
of different aspects of arts and culture in India today. This training
is addressed to students, artists, artisans, professionals, executives
and managers in the private and public sectors as well as to all
individuals desiring to ACTually and ACTively experience Indian culture,
much more so to French speaking people.
This ACTive meeting of cultures
results in a better understanding and trust, and builds up fertile
interactions conducive to lasting ties and innovative initiatives.
This intensive program, both theoretical and practical in different
fields , is tailored to the requirements of each participant :
- a smooth approach to those visiting India for the first time
- a better understanding for those who have already travelled
or studied about India, thereby erasing stereotypes of all sorts
- a real encounter with and theoretical and practical guidance
in the variety and complexity of Indian culture
- an indepth study in areas of particular interest for those
wishing to stay in India for longer periods

The ACT-I program aims to
develop a deeper approach to India's culture leading to sustained
exchanges and collaborations through better understanding and mutual
trust.
Thereby for those who wish, this experience will be conducive:
- to stay longer or come back to India to study or do research
in arts and any other discipline
- to work, establish business, develop professional relations
in India
- to enhance the understanding of the Indian mindset, which
provides an essential tool to businessmen and industrialists
seeking to establish commercial ties, cooperation, transfer of
know-how etc. in India
- to travel in a more observant way, discovering new places and
people
- to share visions and values in everyday life, work, artistic
disciplines and projects, higher studies, business
- to foster initiatives and innovative projects in different
fields.

Proposed activities
Art and Culture Training-India
proposes at Rai Foundation Delhi:
- Short and intensive stays of one week (from Saturday to
Friday, according to availability of international flights) and
- Extended stays of a semester (in the case of students wishing
to obtain accreditation)

MORNING PROGRAM (from 9am to 1 pm)
General conferences on different
aspects of Indian culture given by experts in the following subjects
(according to participants' interest):
- Social and Cultural history
- Economy
- Arts and Literature
- Sciences
- Philosophy, Mythology and Religion

LUNCH at RAI FOUNDATION COLLEGES CAMPUS (1.15pm to
2.45pm)
AFTERNOON PROGRAM (from 15pm to 21pm)
Practical immersion in different
fields (which changes according to the groups):
- Initiation to dance, music, theatre
- Contact with masters and schools of art (visual, performing)
- Attending performances
- Languages initiation in Indian languages as well as in
English and French as a foreign language (for longer stays)
- Interaction with artists, writers, painters, artisans, etc.
- Meeting with b usiness managers, visiting businesses

Evening Program
Free (if the return is done to the campus individually, dinner and
transport will be at the participant's expense.)
For those desiring to stay for longer periods to explore some aspects
of Indian art, culture, business, economy, etc. will get full support
from Rai Foundation which will also include:
- Valuation and accreditation related issues
- Regular courses and workshops (to be held in English)
- Indian language courses
- Visiting other places in India (transport and boarding
expenses are at the personal expense of the students)

These options are to be
determined on the basis of a different program of ACT-I.
Conditions
The Art and Culture
Training-India Program is conducted at the most modern and convenient
premises of the Rai Foundation Colleges and can be organized for groups
of minimum 12 persons.
The program includes theoretical training and practical immersion as
mentioned above and the participants will get the following facilities:
- Full hospitality at Rai Foundation hostel situated at 15
minute drive from the College Campus, in comfortable, AC double
or single rooms, with attached bathroom, internet connection,
fridge
- Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) at Rai Foundation hostel
and Campus
- Free transportation to and from airport, between campus and
hostel, and during group visits to different field work.

Participation fees for one week
(or more) - from Saturday to Friday - will be calculated in accordance
with the nature and requirements of different groups (students, artists,
business managers, others).
All queries may be addressed to:
Not included : Visa
fees, international or domestic flights (in case of visits in India
outside the ACT-I Program), individual transport and meals taken outside
Rai Campus will be at the expense of the participant.
It is advised to coordinate group bookings in order to obtain
competitive prices on international flights and to partake in the group
transfer from airport to campus.
Compulsory : A personal insurance for the travel and stay in
India must be subscribed by all the participants and submitted.
Further Exchanges in India, France and Europe
Other training, exchange and
immersion programs can be organized later in partnership with Rai
Foundation and other universities, public and private partnerships, such
as art schools, craft institutions, masters of performing and visual
arts, chambers of commerce, museums, cultural centers, artistic
companies, business companies, specialized schools (design, fashion,
cuisine, etc.), language schools, for all those who wish to come for
study or professional activities or simply for cultural tourism .
Indian culture in France (or Europe) and French culture in India
- An initiation cross-cultural program on Indian arts and
culture can take place in France and Europe (in French and in
English)
- For Indians wishing to visit France for study, work or travel
purposes, an initiation training to French culture (in French
and English) can also be planned.

Team of Program
Director of Art and Culture Training-India program
Prof. Martine Chemana is PhD in
Indian Studies and an expert in Indian Theatre, Kerala arts and culture.
Trained as a scholar and a performer, she teaches history, anthropology,
Indian philosophy and aesthetics of Indian arts as well as actor's
training in several universities in France (Paris 3, Paris 8, Paris 10,
ENSATT Lyon, etc.). Martine Chemana has to her credit several books and
papers on Indian arts and culture, Malayalam language and literature.
Her deep immersion and experience in India where she has been residing
for more than two decades - in connection with her study / research,
professional activities and artistic and literary projects - have made
her an expert on Indian arts and culture. This enables her to train and
guide people on intercultural issues.

With knowledge of the language, such an initiation to culture in the
original setting with direct encounter and immersion are the best way to
discover a country in a deeper, meaningful and more enjoyable way, and
to make the optimum use of such a travel. Meetings and exchanges
occurring in such conditions can only pave the way to concrete and
lasting partnership in future.
