Ash Institute For Democratic
Governance And Innovation, Harvard University has joined hands with Rai
Foundation for the South Asian Regional Forum of the Global Network of
Government Innovators. The four-day event, from September 26-29, 2007,
at Rai Foundation, Delhi, aims to take a closer look at governance and
more importantly, innovations in governance. Citizens now expect and
demand more transparency, accountability, social justice and better
services in education, healthcare, etc. from their elected
representatives. It is a complex task requiring ingenuity and innovation
on the part of governments to deal with the ever-increasing expectations
on them. People are today more aware of their rights and that makes
matters all the more difficult. Some innovations that are to be taken up
during the course of the event include: How to increase citizen trust,
what are governments doing to deal with emergencies and natural disaster
better, what measures are local governments taking to create
transparency and accountability and what initiatives should governments
contemplate to promote social justice.
