As mark of admiration and
respect to their own teachers and a tribute to one of India's great
teacher diplomat, scholar and President of India Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan, the students of various colleges within Rai Foundation,
Delhi celebrated Teachers Day on 1 st September with full fervor and
reverence.
An aura of jubilation prevailed in the entire auditorium complex as the
students of various Rai Foundation Colleges presented an entertaining
cultural program where even teachers participated in various
competitions that were organized. The Chief Guest on the occasion was
Rai Foundations Executive Director, Ms Nymph Kaul, who started off the
program by lighting a lamp to pay tribute to Dr. Sarvapalli
Radhakrishnan after which she spoke about accomplishments which
transform a teacher to be come an ideal Guru.
Teacher's day is one of the occasions at Rai Foundation that is looked
forward by the teachers and students alike as on this occasion its not
only when teachers are praised but also around various colleges of Rai
Foundation, students dress up as a representation of their teachers and
take various lectures that are assigned to the teachers they represent.
As the day passes the students perform the regular activities that are
performed by the teacher's, hence realizing what it means to be a
teacher and what it means to control the future of several students in
their classes and also teachers are reminded what it felt like when they
were the students.
The celebrations started off with a quote that touches the hearts of
millions of students and teachers alike " A good teacher is like a
candle - it consumes itself to light the way for others", where the
students looked back, admired and cherished the profound memories with
their teachers.
Shadaab, host and a student from Rai Business School said, "Very
few colleges would have the kind of student-teacher interaction as we do
at the Rai Foundation. At the professional, academic and even personal
levels, our teachers make themselves available to us. On Teachers' Day,
we take the opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation to our
teachers for their contribution in shaping our lives. And we thought
music and song and games are great means to express this appreciation
and affection."
As part of celebrations, students greeted their teachers with flowers
and presents after which a range of colorful items were presented. Every
college at Rai Foundation whether it was Rai Business School, College of
Media and Communication, The School of Fashion or the Institute of
Design chose to do something special and different to mark the day. The
cultural performance was a showcase of skits, mono acting, Indian and
Western dances, Bhangra, songs and competitions for teachers.
Mr. Jagjit Bedi, Dean for the Institute of Design, Delhi Engineering
and Art spoke on the teacher-student relationship and their
responsibility towards building an ideal society. He elucidated the role
of a teacher in transforming a man to an ideal citizen and urged the
teachers to be friendly and caring to the students and solve their
problems with emotional touch.
Ms Rythma Bhatia, Dean for School of Fashion Technology, Delhi said, "A
teacher is no longer a sage on stage but a guide by one's side. A
teacher is a facilitator, a role model, a counsellor and an advisor to
whom students can look up to."
While concluding the cultural program Ms Deepika Arora, Dean of Rai
Business School, Delhi thanked all the students for a great show on
behalf of the Deans and Faculty and said "teachers impart not only
basic education, but also other skills required professionally and
students should tread on the path showed their teachers."
