Talk - "Indo-US Strategic Relationships - A New Global Perspective," by Prof. Richard D' Aveni
Date - 9 th May 2006
Venue Satya Sai International center, New Delhi

Prof. Richard D' Aveni, Prof of Strategic Management, Tuck Business School, Dartmouth College, USA, while addressing a seminar on Indo-US Strategic Relationships - A New Global Perspective along with fellow doyens and dais-holders Mr. Anand Sharma, the chief guest and Hon'ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Robert Blake, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of USA, Dr. Abid Hussain, former Ambassador to the United States and Mr. Vinay Rai, Chairman, Rai Foundation, said "The US-India nuclear pack is just the beginning of a shift that will shake the world. The global geopolitical balance of power is shifting, and trade patterns are being altered significantly. Geopolitical shifts have created a confluence of changes that separate the US from Europe, bringing India and America together against common enemies, and pit China against the World."

The seminar was a part of Rai Foundation's "Global Spark initiative" where leaders, opinion holders and doyens in the field of various subjects interact with an open and a mix-bag audience sharing the news, views and opinions of the current methodologies in their respective field of expertise.

Disseminating his views and analysis of India as a new age and upbeat rising economy, Prof . Richard D' Aveni added that "India will be the "New Europe" for America, as it is pivotal to continuing American strategic supremacy and will be developed the way Europe was developed after WW-II by American business interests. It is a time of change and a time of excitement for both countries. But each has a limited window to act before China becomes so powerful that we all fall within its sphere of global hegemony." He also went on to say that India needs to find allies and muster its economy in the same pace that is being done by China so as to sustain in the rapidly growing economy-paced world, hence not only giving a challenge to China but the Europeans too and viewing the current potential in the Indian economy, this may not be a far-fledged dream but a reality in the coming times.

With one of the best leaders and incumbent of an important post holding the dais with Richard, he added that there is a need to change the leadership thought in India, which may be a restricting factor, as his views on Indian leadership are not so healthy, but would like the leadership to change and play such a role that was absent in the era of change in the American history. He also gave emphasis's on the personal growth of an average Indian, which according to Richard is instilled with talent but is not guided towards that right direction, and here is the requirement of a faithful, honest and spearheading leadership.
