In an extraordinary gesture, The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA), in consonance with the Indian Federation of United Nations Associations (IFUNA), has shortlisted Rai Foundation for the 2nd WFUNA Asia Pacific Regional Model UN Conference from 10-12 February 2006 in New Delhi, India.
The Model UN Conference is to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA). Rai Foundation is the only organization in India that has been given this recognition to participate with other fellow countries in the conference.
The conference is a simulation of the UN General Assembly or other multilateral bodies of UN where students from a selected institution prepare themselves to enact the role of the other member governments, putting themselves in the shoes of the "so-called government to be enacted."
Students of Rai Foundation are required to enact the role of Indonesia. The following four students of Delhi Campus have been shortlisted for the Model UN conference:
The aims of each WFUNA Model UN conference are to equip students with the leadership skills
To engage in debates and negotiations on major questions on the UN agenda
To appreciate how the interplay of political, security, economic, cultural and other factors determines a government's position on policy issues at the UN
To know how to apply the rules of procedure in a diplomatic conference setting
To learn how to influence the outcome of negotiations by means of coalition building, caucusing and the creative search for compromise or consensus
