A Shift from Atlantic to the Pacific - a new global Perspective
Seminar on “Indo-US Strategic Relationships”
A new global perspective is emerging and the world will see an exemplar shift from the Atlantic to the Pacific with India poised to become the “new leader” in world showground and the biggest player in Asia. This was prophesized by Political, Diplomatic and Academia think-tanks at the seminar on “Indo-US Strategic Relationships – A new global perspective,” held at New Delhi’s sprawling Satya Sai International center organized by Rai Foundation.
“The US-India nuclear pack is just the beginning of a shift that will shake the world. The global geopolitical balance of power is shifting, and trade patterns are being altered significantly. Geopolitical shifts have created a confluence of changes that separate the US from Europe, bringing India and America together against common enemies, and pit China against the World”
This was stated by Prof. Richard D’ Aveni, Prof of Strategic Management, Tuck Business School, Dartmouth College - USA while addressing a seminar along with fellow doyens and dais-holders Mr. Anand Sharma the chief guest and Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Mr. Robert Blake, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of USA, Dr. Abid Hussain, former Ambassador to the United States and Mr. Vinay Rai, Chairman, Rai Foundation. The seminar was a part of Rai’s Foundation’s “Global Spark initiative.”
“India will be the "New Europe" for America, as it is pivotal to continued American Strategic Supremacy and will be developed the way Europe was developed after WW-II by American business interests. It is a time of change and a time of excitement for both countries. But each has a limited window to act before China becomes so powerful that we all fall within it sphere of global hegemony.” added Prof. Richard D’ Aveni.
While sharing his views on one of his forte topic, Mr. Anand Sharma the chief guest and Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, said that “ The strategic shift in USA’s policy as well as the India policy has direct bilateral and political implications and these implications now are in a sticker sense and both countries have left behind skeptics to take this transformation in the larger picture.” Mr Sharma said that with India’s economy is aiming at 10% growth and the world has started engaging India and knowledge economies are coming together. He was proud of the fact that now Indian doctors, engineers, and managers are in realm of geopolitical affairs and Indian NRIs have in rear spirit of never-say-die lifted India’s names worldwide.
Adding to the same sentiment Dr Abid Hussain, former Ambassador to the United States of America was happy that establishments apart from the Government establishment are initiating such thoughtful processes and was confident that India’s philosophy of co-existence with other countries especially the bigwigs will have a change in international developments too. He also said that if India is to go faster on the road of development then India cannot deny USA as a strategic partner and days ahead will test India and America with the new moves for which they have closer.
Treading cautiously with words and thoughts Mr. Robert Blake, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of USA said “The entire policy fulcrum of USA has shifted from Europe to Asia, with India at the center stage.” He added that since 9/11 the values and interests of both the countries were similar, be it terrorism, nuclear deals, health sector, power, agriculture, space or international issues and both want to be world contributors. He cautioned that India with its present human and economic growth rate requires another green revolution and a new set of economic, FDI and agricultural policies to see it competing with other world leaders, especially China. Mr. Blake applauded the India NRI’s, the second largest income ethnic group and their contribution in the US economy that has actually bridged the people-to-people gap between both democracies. He also commended Indian students and was hopeful of more H1B visas and student visas in the future.
Summing the whole conversation Dr Abid Hussein concluded that the seminar has seen an interaction of great minds and was hopeful that Indo-US ties reach a new high, where in both countries shoulder each other to put across a common voice of change throughout the globe.
